Osmocote fertilizer is chemically coated fertilizer which will slow release over time to provide continuous plant food to potted plants.  The cost is in the range of $1.00 to $2.50 per pound.  Misty Grower 4-2-2 organic fertilizer is naturally slow release to provide food for 300-400 days.  As the cost of chemical fertilizer increases the economics are causing many nurseries to take another look at organics like pelleted poultry litter fertilizer.  The current thinking is that 25 to 50 pounds mixed in 1 cubic yard of potting soil is sufficient to provide the plant food until the plant is unpotted.  This can be increased for bigger plants or longer potting.  Misty Grower is available in bulk or 1 ton bags and can be incorporated easily into potting soil.
