Misty Grower for the Homeowner
A fertilization program should be based on turf-grass needs, soil tests, maintenance practices, and desired appearance. A soil analysis can be obtained through your local County Extension Office. Examples of the most useful fertilizer grades for turf are 16-4-8 and 12-4-8; multiples of our 4-2-2. Eight pounds of 12-4-8 or twenty-four pounds of 4-2-2 per 1000 square feet will provide one pound of nitrogen. Misty Grower 4-2-2 is effective by providing slow release plant food.
Bermuda Grass- Apply to Bermuda grass when spring growth begins and repeat every six weeks from May through September.
St. Augustine Grass- Apply after grass starts to green up in spring and then repeat again in June, July, and September.
Zoysia Grass- Apply after spring green up and then repeat again in June and September.
Tall Fescue- Apply in September, November, and February.
Remember a dark green turf often suggests too much fertilizer and requires more frequent mowing and irrigation.
Centipede Grass 1-1.5” Tall Fescue 2-3”
Common Bermuda Grass 1-2” St. Augustine Grass 2-3”
Hybrid Bermuda Grass .5-1.5” Zoysia Grass .5-1.5”
Use of chemical fertilizer results in a flush of growth depending on water application for 70 to 90 days to produce excess of growth and often trimmings must be removed. Balance of year the plant does not have access to plant food and becomes "patchy" requiring more care. Misty Grower will result in even growth as it provides plant food through natural, slow release properties. Don't have to deal with excess clippings and use routine minimal water program. Misty Grower feeds a plant like we eat - everyday - instead of one or two meals per year with chemical fertilizer.
